10 - Minutes Before Crashing

minutesbeforecrashing.jpg

12/17/2006 5:01 PM - The obligatory "foot shot"; but again, a good capture of the terrain I was about to crash into after apparently going into a parachutal stall. In fact, at the time it happened I was flying upwind [in amost exaclty the same location pictured here] and executed a normal left, ~45-degree banked, turn to crosswind and felt the wing quickly drop behind me. I instantly knew what was happening and would like to think I released brake input and (but I honestly don't remember) -- but I do remember falling and acknowleding what was happening. Even so, if I did, I don't believe ~50-feet was sufficient altitude to recover.

Can't say my life flashed before my eyes as I kind'a knew this would be a non-fatal crash. In fact, during the 2-3 seconds of falling, I can still clearly remember being more concerned about the fear my daughter and the people who had stopped in their cars along-side the road to watch me might be experiencing.
